The Beast in this tale is a wealthy woman under a terrible curse to look like a furry monster, who hires a young man to help her with gardening around her enormous manor house after she catches him snipping roses from her precious rosebushes to give to his crush. Over time, he begins to appreciate her mind and their shared connection over books and falls in love with her, but she refuses to accept his advances and sends him away, back to his family’s house. He leaves but regrets his decision and comes back to find that she’s fallen into a deep depression—but when he kisses her, it undoes her curse.

A fairy at a beautiful, but somewhat eerie, outdoor faerie ball in the woods. It is magical and slightly scary story as the main character makes her way through an alientating enviornment where everyone looks beautiful and human but isn’t quite.
